Ed Sheeran plays guitar and sings at patent hearing in New York
British pop singer Ed Sheeran played guitar and sang on the witness stand during his piracy hearing in New York on April 27, US media reported.
Sheen has denied allegations that his Grammy-winning song “Thinking Out Load” copied Marvin Gaye’s 1973 song “Let’s Get It On” and performed the song, according to The New York Times.
Gaye’s co-writing successors Ed Townsend claim that Ed copied basic concepts from the hit “Let’s Get It On”.
However, in court, Shi Yan talked about her artistic process and sang along with the guitar.
“I’m inspired by so many things in my life and family,” Sheen said, denying allegations he copied Gaye’s 1973 R&B hit. Shi Yang told jurors how he wrote the 2014 song “Thinking Out Loud” at his home in England with friend and collaborator Amy Wecht. The song was inspired by the love between his grandfather and his recently deceased grandmother.
Shi Yan also says that he can write songs very quickly and can write up to nine songs a day. As the hearing began earlier this week, US District Judge Lewis Stanton warned that while singing is allowed in court, dancing is not allowed. The hearing comes a year after Shi Yan settled a copyright lawsuit in London over his song Shape Of You.
